    2.  People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
    3.  Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
    4.  Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
    5.  You must prevent runaway equipment.
    6.  Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
    7.  Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
    8.  You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.

Safety is Your Responsibility

Exercising personal responsibility on the slopes is not only a good idea, here in Colorado, it’s the law. The Colorado Ski Safety Act establishes responsibilities for skiers and snowboarders and spells out risks inherent to the sport.

Under the law, skiers and snowboarders are responsible for skiing and riding within one’s ability level, maintaining control of one’s course and speed, avoiding collisions with others, and to obey all signs and closures.

By educating yourself, friends, and family, you are taking a responsible step toward further ensuring a seamless and pleasurable mountain experience. The menus below are designed as an educational resource that outline the key points of a variety of ski and snowboard safety topics.
