Glenwood Springs Mall Opening Day and Treasure Hunt- All season long!
Some Roaring Fork locals anticipate the annual Treasure Hunt almost as much as opening day itself! At the beginning of the season, we will hide a treasure chest somewhere on the mountain three times during the season, containing a Sunlight season pass for the following year. On Sunlight’s opening day, Friday, December 4th, the first clue of the year will be posted at Guest Services, on our website - sunlightmtn.com, and in the Post Independent Classifieds. Each Friday, a new clue will be posted until someone finds each treasure! Once one treasure is found, another will be hidden.

This year will mark the first occurrence of The Endurance Challenge at Sunlight. The race will begin at 8AM and end at 8PM on February 28th. This 12 hour hike-up/ski-down race endurance race challenges skiers, snow boarders and snowshoers to hike a run called Rebel and then ski, board, hike or otherwise slide down the always exciting run Beaujolais. Racers are competing to complete the most amount of laps in a 12-hour period.
There are several different ways to compete in this race. Competitors may be part of a duo, 4-person, 5-person or unlimited person team. Competitors may also race solo.
4-person teams may elect to compete in a relay style race whereas each competitor takes a lap while the other 3 wait for the person on the course to complete the lap. In this category, only one person per team is allowed on the course at a time. 4-person teams may also compete in the “Firedrill” category that will allow all team members to be on the course at any given time. In either case, a team is competing to complete the most laps.
All racers will have to be off the course by 8PM to have their lap counted towards their team or individual total. This rule will make for some decision making by team members and encourage individuals to push hard to the finish or “Firedrill” teams may take as many of their racers as possible in attempt to overtake a competing team. Any lap completed after 8PM will not be counted towards the total number of laps. Ties for categories that are awarded cash will be decided by the fastest first lap.
There will be live music, drink specials, sponsor giveaways and an award ceremony after the race. All racers will be given a race packet and long sleeve T-shirt. The prize money will be substantial which should attract many top athletes.
